Finish the Story – Playing at Life – Video

Here is a blast from the past – there is even a brief glimpse of me playing my trusty Shergold Meteor in the 1980’s.

Live footage of Finish the Story at Exeter Art College Feb 1983 mixed with 8 track studio version from 1981/2, some new images, original sequences and ‘lost’ shots – such as the bedroom doorway from the farm (R.I.P) and very early footage of Nicola at farm window — not wanting to play! Even very rare footage of me playing guitar live.

Social media affects rankings: More and more, buyers are looking online for products or services local to them, a business that is just around the corner always somehow safer …

#Paintings 2007 – #Allergy

These two paintings above were exhibited in the exhibition at Landmark Theatre, Ilfracombe, North Devon, UK (3rd September 2007 – 7th October 2007) both images were sold and are in private collections.

In many respects I was influenced by the Abstract Expressionists and Gerhard Richter.

Gerhard Richter at the  Tate

Since the 1960s, Gerhard Richter has immersed himself in a rich and varied exploration of painting. I’m looking forward to going to this exhibition. His career has been defined by versatility and innovation, his work covers virtually every painterly discipline … Continue reading →

The fashion for gardening, for an asthmatic, is a cruel joke. We have been ‘doing’ the garden at our home and I made the mistake of planting several climbing plants – I now know I have another contact allergy! Yet again concrete is the only true solution to my problems. The larger paintings in this exhibition are based on the colours these climbing plants go when you spray them with weedkiller.

  • Action PaintingPollock. Print dribbled paint.
  • Soft pink landscapes (1980) Richard Hamilton A landscape of soft focus and toilet paper – a turgid landscape. Collotype and Screenprint – text and image. A  remembered exhibition.
  • Rediscovering the printing process after nearly 40 years has been an interesting process – disappointingly modern inks are not as rich in colour (earthy colors are very plastic like) and modern water based inks don’t become part of the surface, they sit on it, which is incredibly frustrating – the reason I took up printing in the first place was because of the absorbed flatness of the pigments.

#Painting from life is a bit dull

Sometimes you just have to get back to basics and do a simple still life – returning back to the basic skills of painting a real subject is an interesting exercise – even if not very rewarding.

Wine Bottles – I have decided to call this study ‘Home Brew‘.

You can’t beat a good bottle of hangover inducing parsnip wine which usually weighs in at about 13% alcohol and is usually drinkable about 6 months after racking off…

A wine bottle is a bottle used for holding wine, generally made of glass. Some wines are fermented in the bottle, others are bottled only after fermentation. They come in a large variety of sizes, several named for Biblical kings and other figures. The standard bottle contains 750 ml, although this is a relatively recent development. Wine bottles are usually sealed with cork, but screw-top caps are becoming popular, and there are several other methods used to seal a bottle

Postcards From the Edge is a Visual AIDS benefit show and sale of original, postcard-sized artworks by established and emerging artists. All artwork is exhibited anonymously. While buyers receive a list of all participating artists, they don’t know who created which piece until after purchased. With the playing field leveled, all participants can take home a piece by a famous artist, or someone who is just making their debut. Nonetheless, collectors walk away with a piece of art they love, knowing that the money raised will support HIV prevention and AIDS awareness.

Proceeds benefit Visual AIDS. Cash, check, credit cards accepted.
