| Brief history of band (edited
from wikipedia.org).... This Window was formed by
Peter Bright around 1985, earlier tape 'dummy runs' exist
from 1979 to 1984. These tape experiments formed the basic
philosophy of This Window. The analogue tape machine became
the main instrument to create songs. This
interest in experimentation was nurtured by being a member
of the art school bands T.34 (1978
                        1980) The Urge (1979) In A Glass Darkly (1981)
and Finish The Story (1981 -1986) The perfect conduit for This Windows
music was the 'Cassette Culture' scene. Cassette culture
was the trading of home-made audio cassettes and was a
sub-culture of the mail art movement of the 1970s and
1980s. This 'scene' owed a lot to the DIY ethic of punk
                        (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cassette_culture
). This Window released two cassette albums
on M4tr ('Hope' & 'Jude The Obscure') and several
albums were released in Europe, the most successful being
                        'Extraction' & 'Extraction2' (1989 & 1995) both
of these were released by EE Tapes (Belgium). Other releases
include 'En Face' (France) and 'Morning' (Germany). This
Window were one of the leading lights of the 'Cassette
Underground', with radio play in both Europe and America.
Critical acclaim was received from both sides of the Atlantic
with radio play both in Europe and America.
After a ten year gap a CD was released (together
with Finish The Story) in 2005 called 'The Sampler #05',
this received flattering praise and was followed up with
two more Cdr releases in 2007. |
